I picked up this new shiny, New York Color Starry Silver Glitter from Rite-Aid on my way home yesterday for just $1. It is unbelievably pretty and looks like a galaxy! I foresee using this polish on a full galaxy manicure in the very near future.

- [Callus](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/callus/) - A skin condition that causes hardening or thickening of the skin surface. Causes can include friction, irritation or pressure usually from repeated contact. Usually benign, but can lead to other issues.
- [Bunion](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/bunion/) - A skin condition that forms a bump at the base of the big toe on the outside of the foot which forces the big toe to point inwards. Bunions can be painful and sometimes will become red and inflamed. Causes can include aging, genetics, some medical conditions, improperly fitted shoes, or other pressure on the foot. Treatment options are available.
- [Buffing](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/buffing/) - A technique used to smooth or “polish’ the surface of the nail bed. Buffing can smooth out ridges, “correct” tears and splits, and create a shiny appearance on the nail that mimics clear polish.
- [Buffer](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/buffer/) - A nail tool used to smooth out the surface of the nail bed and create a smooth free edge. A buffer can be used on the nail to file, create a smooth surface and add shine.
- [Black-Light Nail Polish](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/black-light-nail-polish/) - A type of nail polish that glows under a backlight or UV-A (ultraviolet) light. NOT the same as Glow in the Dark Polish.
- [Base Coat](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/base-coat/) - A type of nail polish meant to be the first coat applied directly to the nail bed as a barrier between the nail and nail polish or the environment. A good base coat can fill in ridges, reduce polish dry time, extend the wear of a manicure, prevent staining and ensure a smooth, even polish application. Speciality base coats also help with specific concerns such as nail hardeners, nail strengtheners, ridge fillers and other treatments.
- [Barbicide](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/barbicide/) - A concentrated, hospital-grade liquid disinfectant used to clean grooming tools. It is a translucent blue color and is used in most hair and nail salons. “It is a germicide, pseudomonacide, fungicide, and a viricide, which is effective against the HIV-1 virus (AIDS virus), Hepatitis B, and Hepatitis C.” Can cause skin irritation.
- [Big 3/4/5 Free](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/big-3-4-5-free/) - Nail polishes that are free from the “major” toxic chemicals that are found in most nail polish formulas that may be harmful to your health.

- [Almond Shape](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/almond-shape/) - Usually a longer nail shape that tapers to a rounded point at the tip. The overall shape resembles the shape of an almond - hence the name. Because this shape requires filing the side-wall it can be more prone to breakage.
- [Acetone](https://www.blackcatnails.com/glossary/acetone/) - A clear, strong-smelling, flammable liquid used to remove nail polish. Can be drying to the skin and cause a white “ashiness”. It is a solvent that is miscible with water and recognized to be generally safe. Still try not to ingest or inhale it - it will melt acrylic!
